  • LadyFestGR 2020 Headliner Announcement! 🌾THAO (of The Get Down Stay Down)!🌾 Advance Tickets: pyramidschemebar.com More about Thao: Indie folk singer/songwriter Thao Nguyen crafts delicate but memorable songs tinged with country and blues, and her rich voice and thoughtful lyrics draw comparisons to Fiona Apple and Cat Power. She began writing and playing songs when she was 12; when she was in high school, she worked at her mother's laundromat and played guitar when she wasn't helping customers. She moved on to playing local shows while attending Virginia's College of William & Mary. There, she met bassist Adam Thompson and drummer Willis Thompson, who became the core of her band, the Get Down Stay Down. In 2006, Nguyen released her debut album, Like the Linen, on the Trust Me imprint and played a few Washington, D.C., and New York City dates. She also sent a copy of Like the Linen to Laura Veirs, who liked it so much that she not only had Nguyen open for one of her dates at the Mercury Lounge, but also took her on a European tour and introduced her to Slim Moon, Veirs' former manager and owner of Kill Rock Stars, as well as producer Tucker Martine. Nguyen made her debut on the label by contributing a song to the 2007 compilation The Sound the Hare Heard; the Martine-produced We Brave Bee Stings and All arrived in early 2008. In 2011, Nguyen teamed up with her friend Mirah for the collaborative album Thao & Mirah. An album with the Get Down Stay Down materialized in 2013 in the form of the community-minded We the Common. In 2016, Thao released their fourth album, 'A Man Alive.'

  • LadyfestGR 2020 Performer Announcement: Patty PerShayla and Sandra Effert! Patty PerShayla has been described as, "peace, love, and a giant crowbar," as she has a gritty, yet sweet singing voice, and has both explosive and tender moments in her performance. PerShayla grew up around jam bands and started writing songs as a teenager, beginning with parodies and songs about Harry Potter (with performances at conventions such as LeakyCon and VidCon). Also known for her ukulele renditions of heavy metal songs, she placed fourth in the Bushman World Ukulele Contest back in 2013. Patty has performed at Michigan festivals such as LudRock, Wish You Were Here, and Walk The Beat (Grand Haven and Albion). www.pattypershayla.com Sandra Effert adopted writing styles derived from artists such as Ingrid Michaelson and Brandi Carlile - her energetic and soulful music portrays her unique perspective into personal and emotional stories from her own life’s experiences. She has lived many lives through her art, singing in Jazz bars in Chicago, acting in film and theater, burlesque and even made it to the final auditions in both American Idol and The Voice only to leave vomiting in a taxi. She is your third-place winner in Grand Rapids Got Talent. She's a mom of twin toddlers now creating art for sanity and activism. Damo Suzuki (ダモ鈴木), is a Japanese musician who has been living in Germany since the early 1970s and is best known as the former lead singer of the German krautrock group Can. He is a vocalist and improvisational musician whose creative wanderlust has taken him around the world, performing with a dizzying variety of collaborators. Suzuki had little experience as a musical performer before joining Can in 1970, but his bold, theatrical style and abstract lyrical sensibility put its stamp on three of the group's most memorable albums (1971's Tago Mago, 1972's Ege Bamyasi, and 1973's Future Days) before he left the group in 1973. After a decade away from music, Suzuki returned in 1983, shunning the recording studio in favor of improvised live performances, a number of which have been recorded and released, among them 2000's Seattle, 2002's P.R.O.M.I.S.E., and 2007's The Fire of Heaven at the End of the Universe. Working with established groups as well as "sound carriers" he often has never met before walking on-stage, Suzuki's music in the 21st century has found him relentlessly exploring the boundaries of spontaneous creativity. In 2014, Suzuki was diagnosed with colon cancer, and his treatment left him unable to travel or perform for a spell, but in 2016 he was well enough to return to the stage, and still performs regularly. He will embark on a coast to coast tour of the United States in the spring of 2020. This will mark Suzuki’s first run of U.S. performances in over 10 years.
